Description

Assassins Creed Odyssey for PC is the latest in the wide-ranging and popular action role-playing series in which the player becomes an assassin in a certain era. There are, to date, ten main games and seventeen spin-off games as well as a lot of other products, such as books and films.

About the Game

As often, with such carefully realised worlds, there are multiple overlapping storylines, some of which the player can heavily influence. The broad storyline deals with the attempt to eradicate an evil Greek cult along with the discovery of evidence of Atlantean creatures and artefacts.

Meanwhile the more intimate story deals with the character’s attempt to reunite and heal his or her family, having been left for dead in their youth.

The game is strongly role-playing, with almost every player’s choice making a difference to the outcome of the quest or mission. The world is highly interactive with plenty of authentic seeming dialogue options, and the opportunity for quests to branch off in a number of ways, which – obviously – provides the option for multiple endings. This means that you can play over areas and quests as often as you like, getting different results each time.

Male/ Female: Spartan/ Athenian – the Choice is Yours

The player chooses to be male (Alexios) or female (Kassandra): a mercenary who is a descendant of the famed Leonidas 1. They have inherited his broken spear and rework the fragments into a new powerful weapon with attendant new powers to be explored and mastered.

You join the battle between Sparta and Athens in 431BC, and as you are a mercenary, you can choose to be on either side, according to your preferences. As the game is highly story-driven, your character can have romantic relationships with NPCs (non-playing characters). You can even choose same-sex partners, if you so desire, making the game effortlessly inclusive.

Trees and Ships (and sealing wax!)

The game allows players to develop their skills by filling up skill trees, of which there are three:

  • Assassin skill tree: deals with stealth and silent takedowns of enemies

  • Weapons skill tree: deals with close-up combat using swords, spears and similar weapons

  • Hunter skill tree: deals with distance combat, such as using a bow and arrow to take down an enemy from far

  • As well as these skill trees, each piece of equipment is graded and rated and each provides the player with certain benefits. All of these pieces of gear can be upgraded separately to give the player the maximum benefit in any scenario.

The sea combat that was such a hit in Origins has returned, and players can take their battle to the high seas, slicing triremes in half or swinging alongside to board the ship and fight the inhabitants. The ships and setting are appropriate for the game setting so you can indulge in naval combat using Hellenistic-era warships and exploring the Aegean Sea to your heart’s content.

    A Bit About Gameplay

The game’s graphics are beautiful and the open world is immense, positively inviting exploration. Each region is depicted so it is distinct from the one before, but all are exquisitely detailed to play through.

The player has a lot of agency within the game, and can choose to do things for their own reasons – or for no reason at all! This adds immeasurably to the charm of the game, as it gets you invested in doing things your way and seeing how it all comes out in the long run.

The game is a beautiful combination of systems, something that might seem like overkill, but is not. The systems work well to create an engaging world that you will not want to leave until you have filled this metre, mastered that weapon, or just had a look over the hill just there, see?

Assassins Creed Odyssey for PC is available for purchase on Instant Gaming for a fraction of its retail price. You will receive an official key and be able to play the game in seconds. Play smart. Pay less.

One of the best games I have ever played! Very large map with many awesome quests and gear. As greek player I find annoying the frequent use of word "malaka" as cursing in an era (530 BC) that ancient Greeks did not use that word. It is a modern time cursing after 1900.
    • Awesome graphics
    • Large game content
    • Many hours of playing time
    • A bit repetitive at times
    • Annoying cursing of the word malaka.

Amazing game. Fan of AC or not, you're going to like it, just don't expect the classic AC experience. Very beautiful world, huge map, a lot of interesting content. Quests are more interesting than the typical action RPG experience, filled with humor and interesting stories. One of the rare games I played 100+ hrs, super detailed and fun.

With a hand on my heart this is the best game I've played in the franchise.. Of course it's my opinion. The gameplay is smooth,as well as the combat. It has amazing storyline and a lot to explore. The graphics are next level. And the charecters are amazing. Even I purchased a book about Greek mythology because of the game. Amazing stuff.

mostly boring and the gameplay repeats itself too much, there are just too much opportunities missing and everything you do just feels the same, every camp or forest is basically the same and after some time the game just feels repetitive and you question yourself if you´re having fun or just forcing yourself to play the game, still the graphic is good, the gameplay is okay and for the price I would recommend it to someone who seeks an almost open world game which has nothing to do with ac anymore, the story is weird especially the ending and the characters are nothing special, you share no bounds with them, they dont mean anything to you.

Mostly I was just forcing me to play this game because I bought it but it´s not bad, it is just nothing special.
    • Mostly Open world, Cool Abilities, different armor and weapon stats, a little customizability,
    • You can see penises on statues
    • Boring, repetitive, no different enemy types
    • it feels to empty for this big map, same forts and camps and animals

It's a prolonged game with a massive map full of repetitive, tiring and bland quests. Main story was actually decent in the beginning, its finale is what made me quite disappointed as it delivered less than what was expected because of the hype.

It has its magic because of the locations, historical events, characters, etc. Although voice acting is below average, sometimes annoying too. If you can overcome these cons then you will have an amazing adventure of exploring the Greek world.
    • Map is becautiful. Every scene is like a screenshot made for marketing.
    • Your typical repetitive open world side quests
    • Leveling can be very time consuming since missions will contantly require higher levels
    • Horrible voice acting
    • Too many naval battles
    • Animals are too agressive. They are also almost everywhere in the map.

The Assassin’s Creed franchise is a one of the greatest franchises in
gaming history, but has also been a…Less than mediocre franchise at
times, to put it nicely. I still remember when I first played the original
Assassin’s Creed game, it was an entirely new and unique genre at that
time. There was no other game like it, and since then it has inspired
most of Ubisoft games to be like it in design and gameplay. But then the
bad years of the AC franchise came when a new AC game was an annual
event and every new game just felt more and more like the previous
game, but with more bugs. I can’t stress how great of a choice it was to
take a break a few years back from making a new AC game. Last year,
they came out with Assassin’s Creed: Origins and that was a fresh new
installment. It had all the good mechanics from past AC games while
adding new ones. All in all, it rejuvenated and breathed new life into a
    once dying series.

So now, what about this year’s title? Odyssey - Is it back to the
monotonous and dull games of years past or does it match up with what
    Origins had to offer?

    Is this still Assassin’s Creed?
One stark change to the franchise (since Origins), is the fact that the
game has moved to a much more of a focus on having RPG elements
than being Hack and Slash-like, like in the original. This game also has a
huge importance on collecting unique and fancy loot. While it may not
be like the loot collecting in games such as Destiny and Warframe, it
does hold its own. In the end it is not in the same genre as these other
games and is not designed to be a looter game. Therefore, for a game to
not be a “looter”, yet have the astonishing variety of loot found in this
    game is a huge positive.

    Combat and Gameplay Mechanics
Something that is common to RPGs, but not to most previous AC games
is the level system with skill points to put into various abilities. At the
start you will not have many abilities or skills and the game may feel like
a hack and slash game, but as you progress through the game, the
combat will also get better. I can say with certainty that this game has
one of the best combat mechanics you will see in any game. You have a
wide variety of blocks, attacks, assassinations, etc. at your disposal.

There is a bounty system, if you harm innocent lives and commit crimes
then there will be a bounty on your head. And at times when you least
expect it, you will be notified that 1 or more bounty hunters are after
you. Now these aren’t the same as the tiny, trash mobs you fight most of
the game. No, these bounty hunters are more like boss fights. And when
you see them you better run as fast as you can unless you want to risk
    your life.

There are many more unique gameplay elements that I will touch on in
    other parts of this review.

    Story
I will try and give a brief summary of some parts of the story without
spoiling anything. You have a very basic character creation system with
the main choice being whether you choose male or female character.
Throughout the story you are trying to reconnect with your past while
also trying to change the future of Ancient Greece for the better.

You face a cult throughout the story and you are given this flowchart
with various members of the cult but with their identities hidden. You
can perform missions and other quests to uncover more information

about these members and once you have identified them you can take
them out. One by one, you try and take down the entire cult. But keep in
mind that most of these members aren’t easy to kill, they are extremely
challenging and there is a hefty reward for killing them with exquisite
    loot drops.

You also have Greece split up into various regions and in each of them
you can influence a particular faction such as the Spartans and Athens.
Once you have earned enough influence you can wage war on the other
faction in the area. These triggers a war-type mission which is a huge
scale battle. Once you have defeated enough of the enemy you have to
fight a final boss to finally defeat the faction and gain control for your
allies. This is a unique game mode not seen in other games and is a
    wonderful addition to this game.

    Naval Combat
Now earlier in this review I said that they added new elements but kept
good ones from previous games, and one good decision was to bring
back the naval combat from Black Flag. There are a few changes such as
no cannons, since there weren’t any cannons during the period the
game is set in. But they have replaced them with things such as a javelin
barrage. All in all, there are small changes to the naval combat, but it is
just as good as in Black Flag. One thing that adds to the experience, is
the gorgeous water textures and graphics. Sailing through this huge
open world looks, as beautiful as you can imagine.

    Graphics and Performance
This game has some of the best graphic design and artwork you will see
in any game. Yes, some of the assets are reused from Origins, but that
just tells you how beautiful Origins looked and this one is even better. To
add to the amazing graphical quality, the game runs, as smooth as
butter. And this isn’t just for me, but for most people on the internet.

This just shows how much has changed since the days of AC: Unity
where the game was a bug infested mess on release.

Go and get the game ASAP!
What are you waiting for? This game is a masterpiece. While there are a
couple of issues when it comes to the leveling system being a bit too
much of a grind towards the end game, a couple of side quests will help
you on your way. Don’t buy the microtransaction currency to boost your
character, don’t support this corporate greed. Just play some side quests
which won’t be an annoying thing to do, as this game is truly enjoyable.
It’s a game you will come back to time after time and enjoy over the
period of months rather than rushing through the game in a weekend.
This game is definitely worth the money for old fans and new ones too!

A pretty packed adventure with plenty of stuff to do (great for perfectionists) and the main story missions are fulfilling enough for the average player. However, true AC fans will be very disappointed at the game because it features little to no references of the beloved franchise and there is even less reason to actually use a stealth play style in the game. The world can get a little repetitive after a while of playing and you begin to realise that the starting island (which you spend about twenty minutes on) is the best looking island in the game. However, a solid entry to the franchise but would've done much better as a solo role playing game like Skyrim.

    Parkour is terrible though.

One of the Best AC Games ever! And I have played them all. I Test and play so many games on Twitch.tv/myrkee .. And we even got invited to a Podcast cause of this game.. and my admiration for it.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey is a superb open world RPG. It can be a little rough around the edges, but there's a gameplay freedom to this particular adventure that's really a cut above what the series has attempted previously. With a gameplay loop that simply never stops giving, Ubisoft's recreation of ancient Greece is an amazing achievement, and in some ways, a genuine step forward for open world game design.

An unexpected surprise, but a welcome one.

This game definitely takes a step forward from what Origins started, in the RPG direction, and if you are a lover of RPG games like Dragon Age, Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Mass Effect, or The Witcher, this game is for you.
    • Great detail put in almost every quest from the main story and the secondary sidequests
    • Implemented ability to choose and make decisions, you are able to lie and persuade of something, flirt, ask questions and make decisions that can have consequences instantly or later in the story
    • Just love that you can actually make any armor look like any other one as long as you've looted it in the past
    • Really big map, but also full of things to do, there is a lot of quests and interesting places to visit, great balance between a great world and the content that fills it up, it's not just a huge empty map
    • Useful skills for combat that leaves you space to explore different kinds of play style
    • The main story starts super good, and it keeps getting better the more you play, until it ends a bit abruptly, leaving little space to actually enjoy the climax of the story, even though it has a good ending

I have played every AC game to the bone since the release of the first one, and i can say that this is one of the poorer AC games ever.
The combat system is repetitive, boring and blunt where the only challenge of an enemy is that they have large amount of health.
The characters are boring and sometimes annoying, with nothing to make them memorable. The skill tree and the upgrade system of the ship are both pure garbage, and the reason of that is that even if you have the best skill maxed, you will see almost no difference when figthing an enemy with that skill than when you use your normal basic attacks, your character will just do an okayish looking move that will get boring after using it so many times, but wont do any difference in combat because you could have dealt the same damage with normal basic attacks.
To upgrade the ship you must find many kinds of different resources, which takes forever but is not worth it since the ship traveling and combat is as unspectacular as an onion falling down from a table, nothing compared to AC Black Flag.
The loot system is also terrible since you get better gear aprox. every 10 minutes, so that the joy of looting is completely disabled. for example, you fight an hard boss fight for a chest gear that not only looks epic, but also has good stats, after a long fight you get that gear and you feel good about it, only to find another random piece of equipment in a random chest with better stats.
Also being able to change the optical look of the gear into whichever gear you like, is completely killing the need and joy of exploring and doing quests for an epic gear set.
Oh and while am at it about the quests, there are way to many quests that pop up everywhere, which wouldnt be so bad if those quests were nearly as interessting.
the only good thing about this game is the open world map, it is HUGE and beatiful to look at, but it also lacks activity and life.
Nonetheless, if you like mindless grinding with no special effects to it and a story who's potential has not been fully worked out, but it is still enough to bind you as long as you have enough fantasy of your own, you will be satisfied with the game.
All in All 4 out of 10.

But yet again, the most important factor is, that this is that kind of game, that even when you start loving and hating it at the same time, you will get drawn back into it again and again.
And you will find rewarding moments of satisfaction, as long as you like to explore and live an adventure. It's worth to give it a shot.
    • The world map is Huge and full of stuff to explore
    • The graphics of the world and the characters is a sight to be admired
    • The story has great potential and so much to learn about it
    • The world has many mysteries which will wake the explorer in you
    • The game is huge in terms of playable material, at least 100h+
    • Blunt combat system which gets boring and unspectacular after a while
    • Most sidequests are repetitive or boring
    • The most side characters are poorly made when it comes to the voice overs, which makes them blunt and boring in conversations
    • The choices you can make don't feel like they are having a great impact on the unfolding of the story. (some do, but most of them do not)
    • It's an endless grind without a real rewarding feeling

Nice storyline and great side missions but the combat system doens't always work very wel. I also didin't really like the controls but its certainly a great stealth/open world game. Sometimes i wasn't able to assassinate an enemy, and if that happens often it gets really annoying.
    • Nice storyline
    • Nice side missions
    • Great open world
    • Beautiful viewpoints
    • Combat system doens't always work
    • Sneaking works a little bit strange sometimes.
    • You can't change the controls

Definitely a great and exciting game. I would recommend it to everyone who loves great story based games especially AC franchise. There are so many places to explore even after you finish the game you can still start new wars and explore. This is probably the best AC game so far, completed it twice so far and spent about 230 hours on it, including the dlcs.

    • you can have ships

This game is amazing. Really immersive and an incredible ammount of things to do even after you're done with the story, You can complete all the side quests, (theres a lot of them) explore the enormous world and find a lot of secrets and you can try to find all the view points. Theres a lot of stuff i can't fit
in this review but all i can say is. Buy this game.
    • Lots of stuff to do
    • Very immersive
    • Great story with multiple endings
    • Some areas feel a bit empty
    • Your horse is a bit dumb
    • It's way to easy on normal mode
