About the Game


The protagonists are siblings, Amicia and Hugo. Amicia is the main character, and she has been tasked with saving her ill younger brother Hugo who has some sort of blood condition. However, it transpires that this blood condition is part of the reason they are in trouble: the villain seeks to use Hugo’s blood to seize some of the powers it bestows. Powers that neither Hugo nor Amicia know about.

Amicia must work to save her brother, despite his taking the part of the villain at one point, being confused about who is and is not on his side. Amicia can craft resources into weapons, storage and much more, when she is in the presence of a work-bench, and she must work hard to stay ahead of the Inquisition-style soldiers.

Hugo: More Than Meets the Eye


Hugo is an able companion when he is with Amicia, and can be set doing minor tasks while Amicia is otherwise engaged. However, he cannot craft things – Amicia is the only character who can.

Hugo, who becomes a playable character later in the game, can control rats thanks to the supernatural evil that resides in his blood: the real cause of his illness. He is also small enough to slip into smaller spaces than those that Amicia can fit into. This gives him some advantages and means that playing as him can sometimes be more desirable, even though he is not able to craft resources when necessary.

Once the siblings are reunited, later in the game, all their skills are combined so they can all be used simultaneously to defeat the enemies more expeditiously.

Plagues of Soldiers and Rats


The children initially have to hide from the rampaging soldiers of the Inquisition-style enemy, and wander about, exploring and seeking Hugo’s doctor in the hope that he can help them. As they find work-benches, Amicia can craft materials needed for improving their lives or helping them to survive.

Later, swarms of ravenous rats descend on the unwary, consuming and diseasing them. However, the seemingly unstoppable rats do have one weakness – light. This enables the children to survive some quite tricky scenes as they use this weakness to their considerable advantage.

The medieval time setting stymies any modern gadgetry that might otherwise have allowed for ‘cheats’ to make the children’s journey easier.

Instead, things must be done ‘old school’ with ingenuity, crafting the right tools and thinking strategically to use one’s advantages.

Survive the Tale for a Positive Outcome


The game can be described as a series of survival puzzles, with a compelling and exciting storyline filling in the gaps between moments of high tension as the children fight for survival. The arrival of the rats is gruesome, especially when they are attacking characters, and will raise a thrill of horror in even the most hardened horror fan!

There are many trials and tribulations to play through, and each chapter must be completed satisfactorily, before the final loose ends can be wrapped up. But the good news is that there is a happy ending – or the possibility of one at least – with the return of a much-loved character who had been presumed dead, which makes gameplay very satisfying to work through.

Touchingly, Hugo picks a flower at the successful conclusion of each chapter, fastening it into Amicia’s hair as a symbol of his acknowledgement of the debt owed to her for keeping him alive and as safe as possible.

    Great game. It's not very difficult, but you'll enjoy every minute playing at it thanks to the great story. The ambientation is fanthastic, you can feel the devastation of the Black Death everywhere. Happily surprised.

    Loved this game! The story is a nice mix of fantasy and history (more on the fantasy side, of course), the puzzles were easy enough, and I like how the whole game is based on stealth and exploration. That did not fail to make some of the fights challenging though.
    Each episode is an adventure, and the characters are likable, each with their own special abilities. While generally easy, it does still manage to keep you on your toes with its ominous atmosphere and challenges at almost every step.

    But the history is extremely boring , I played it to the end but only because I paid for it .

    “Monsters are those things to which we have never given a name.”

    A Plague Tale: Innocence have been around for maybe a year by the time I got around to play it (after YouTube kept recommending it for weeks). The plot seemed interesting, and based on the story trailer, I knew it’s going to be an emotional and epic adventure. I was right! The plot is a mixture of history and fiction, which lately became a favorite of mine. The characters are all loveable in their own way, which made all the deaths even more heartbreaking. And the visuals? Breathtaking! I had at least 10 mental breakdowns while fighting (and continually losing to) our Flame Lord near the end of the game—honestly, it was more frustrating than the final boss—but all that struggle just made victory even sweeter. The ending kind of made me feel like there’s more to the story, which I was all for, so I was sooo excited to hear about the upcoming sequel!

    I waited a long time to play this game. Finally decided to buy it but i was dissapointed in the end i expected something "realistic" story wise and you end up with some supernatural bs. I won't say more but fps stutters bad story really repetitive gameplay don't buy it more then 20 €.

    A Plague Tale: Innocence will surely be remembered as the "rat game" in the future, which will bring it the recognition that is drying up in the video game world.

    About the game
    By its structure, "the play with rats" is designed as a linear survival with a clear focus on sneaking, bypassing, or silently eliminating threats along the way. At its core, however, the play is primarily concerned with the narrative and storytelling of the tormenting but also an inspiring epic of several young people in times that were as difficult as an anvil around the neck for adults. All this is additionally and artfully intertwined with the imaginative, semi-fantasy motifs and harsh reality and real qualities of the period and climate that the game describes.
    Given this setting and the author's desire for storytelling to run smoothly and continuously, the elements of gameplay are relatively poor, with the absence of greater freedom to choose how to solve a problem. The main "tools" that you will most use are the stones you collect along the way, with which you can do some distracting actions.

    Gameplay
    The mainstay of all your actions concerns the aforementioned rat attacks, around which several successful gameplay mechanics are built that are constantly intertwined. Rat attacks are, first and foremost, extremely sensitive to any light source, whether it is a suspended lamp, a torch to be taken off a wall, or a burning rod that will temporarily provide light. If you inadvertently "get off" the tracks that are safe or suddenly find yourself in the dark, you have literally a second and a half to get hold of security, as tireless rodents will overwhelm you like piranhas and expressly send you to Reload checkpoint screen. This also applies to your opponents, which you can actively use against them (by breaking a handy lamp they carry with them for example), crossing over ham or hanging corpses (which attracts rats), or otherwise directing rodents (light beams you can to rotate, for example). While playing, you will encounter different types of slingshot ammo, opening up an additional array of ways to move forward: flammable pebbles that activate extinguished torches or burners, exploding which eliminates rats within a limited radius, solution for lulling guards, toxic missiles that will force opponents to take off their helmets. substance-coated projectiles that attract rodents and the like.

    The visual and sonic play evokes its design and is a testament to how much attention the authors have taken to creating compelling sites that exude strong historical authenticity (in terms of architecture, quality of textures, details, special effects and more). Particularly effective are the rats themselves, which protrude from every possible orifice, boiling in the distance when you see only their outlines and shaky eyes because of the darkness, constantly trying to bite you if you are careless, or scream and panic if you chase them, swinging a torch... Audio processing is outstanding, whether it's ambient sounds, the murmur of furry monsters in the dark, or dramatic tones if guards catch you looking like a game of Shadow Tactics, and here it is highly advisable to include the original (in this case French) language of the characters to be advertised.

    Conclusion
    Should you give this game a go?

    If you're a fan of titles like Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons or The Last of Us, where the goal of the trip is as important as the trip itself, A Plague Tale is more than a good choice for something that may not have the potential to keep coming back to it, but it definitely belongs to the group of games that you will enjoy every second of its duration.

    Bastante buen juego. Pese a ser lineal y no ser dificil, tiene una buena historia. Es bastante entretenido y tiene un buen balance en todos sus aspectos. Los graficos particularmente me han gustado bastante.

    The story starts off strongly and definitely brutally. I'm not exaggerating, they definitely did a good job at showing how brutal and disgusting the Black Death was. However even such horrible event cannot surpass how some people were more disgusting to each other and in some cases they use the tragedy for their own benefits. The game portrays that very well.

    In that horrible world we find the sister and the little brother who have that innocent and adorable bond. As the story evolves I felt so attached to Amicia, it could be the cute accent, but I think it was also how the character evolves to the point where she would risk anything just for the safety of her brother and that basically is how Amicia grew so charismatic and heroic to me.
