The Elder Scrolls Online: Greymoor – Standard Edition for PC, officially begins with the Harrowstorm downloadable content, but that is only a small part of what is arriving with this comprehensive expansion pack that dips more than just a toe into the realm of fantasy beasts, creatures and peoples.

About the Game

Exploration is very much encouraged with this game version, as can be seen with the introduction of Antiquities missions, which send the player, Indiana Jones-like, in search of ancient, valuable, or significant treasures, whether they are weapons, gold or simply historic artefacts. Sometimes these missions have an underlying purpose, such as getting you to gather together all the parts you need for a special weapon or tool that you can then use to win battles.

The game is set to the far north and west of the realm. The game continues its vaguely Viking theme, but adds in some delightfully Halloweeny monstrous creatures, such as vampires and werewolves. The game also takes us underground, to the region called Blackreach, which is actually about half of the game playing space in this pack, so do be sure to explore every inch both above and below ground in order to uncover all the secrets.

You can play solo, as always, or you can bring along a real life buddy to be your team mate or your enemy, depending on how you like to play. Or you can try multiplayer, setting yourself up against the entire rest of the world: whichever way to play that you prefer.

Points to Ponder

The Elder Scrolls are rapidly approaching their tenth birthday at the time of this release, and there is unlikely to be anything too surprising for regular fans or players of the game, no matter which version or expansion pack you have. However, keep your eyes peeled for the following:

  • Kynes Aegis: A brand new twelve-person trial which you can stand alone, or pair up with a real world buddy to see what the buzz is, battling your way to supremacy just in order to say you did it!

  • Vampires: These blood-sucking villains are no strangers to Elder Scrolls players, having featured in other games and packs, but this is the first time that they are actively involved. You can be transformed into a vampire, but do not worry, you can be cured. However, before you race to cure yourself, maximise your vampire skills and ‘bank’ them so you keep them even after you have returned to your normal self.

  • Timeline: This expansion pack goes way back in time, to a thousand years before the action that is detailed in Elder Scrolls V, and then covers a year’s worth of time as you play through the game.

  • Needs More Dragons: This pack has no dragons in it. Also no Dragonborn and no Stormcloaks., but this is not to say there is no action. Greymoor has a spectral and gothic feel to it which provides the perfect foreshadowing of Blackreach.

  • Blackreach: Underground, mysterious, necessarily dark, look out for dwarven ruins and derelict – but still dangerous – dwarven automata, as well as immense glowing mushrooms. Needless to say, with vampires famously shunning the sunshine, it will come as no surprise to find vamps in the underground. There is even a town in Blackreach, but whether it is friendly to you, or more inclined to the blood-hungry will be up to you to find out
    Carefully!

  • The Elder Scrolls Online: Greymoor – Standard Edition for PC is available for purchase on Instant Gaming for a fraction of its retail price. You will receive an official key and be able to play the game in seconds. Play smart. Pay less.
