Description

Counter Strike: Global Offensive is a multiplayer first-person-shooter game, the fourth of the Counter Strike franchise. In this game, you will play out scenarios which pit two teams against one another: Terrorists and Counter-Terrorists battle against each other to achieve their targets.

About the Game

The basic mode of the game starts with the terrorists trying to plant a bomb while the counter terrorists plan to stop them by preventing the placing of the bomb, rescuing their hostages or defusing the bomb if the terrorists do manage to plant it. With only forty seconds until detonation and a full five seconds need to defuse the threat, it can be quite exciting.

There are nine game modes in total (see below for more about these) and an active Esports scene in which teams compete in professional tournaments and leagues. There is also an offline mode, for new players to practice and learn how to use the guns and grenades. This is called the Weapons Course. All the other modes can be played online or offline, as you prefer.

The Nitty Gritty

There are five types of weapons: rifles; submachine guns; heavier weaponry (for example, light machine guns and shotguns), pistols and grenades. The map on which you will be playing is dependent on the game mode you opt for. All the kit can be bought by either side except for the rescue kit which helps counter-terrorists rescue hostages more quickly.

Game a la Mode

The game modes are:

  • Competitive: battle against other players with similar rankings in teams of five to be the best of 30. Mind your teammates, though, friendly fire will take them out

  • Casual: this mode doesn’t register friendly fire, and gameplay is less serious than ‘Competitive’ mode. A good game for practicing your moves

  • Deathmatch: this mode is similar to ‘Casual’: no friendly fire, less serious than ‘Competitive’ mode. Good for practice

  • Arms Race: both teams start off with the same weapon, and as soon as you make a kill, you are upgraded to the next weapon on the list. Win by completing a kill with every weapon

  • Demolition: a bomb-defusing game where you only receive weapon upgrades if you killed someone in the previous round, so keep your finger on the trigger to stay on top of the score

  • Wingman: sixteen intense rounds of two-on-two action. You are paired with a partner, based on your rankings, as in ‘Competitive’ mode

  • Flying Scoutsman: one gun (the Scout of the title), one knife, and a low-gravity map to mix things up a bit

  • Retakes: the terrorists have already planted their bomb and are defending their patch. Counter-terrorists must retake the ground, defuse the bomb and make it out safely. The seven players in the game are divided into three terrorists and four counter-terrorists

  • Danger Zone: a small but compact battle royale in which 18 players battle for supremacy, weapons, money and kit! You can play solo or in a team

  • Counter Strike: Global Offensive allows you do your bit to conquer terrorism – or unleash your inner anarchist!
