Core Keeper to gra opierająca się na eksploracji losowo generowanego świata z różnymi biomami, kryjącego zarówno masę itemów, jak i surowców, z których gracz zmuszony jest craftować niezbędne do przeżycia narzędzia. Eksploracja opiera się na kopaniu tuneli w podziemiach w otwartym, pikselowym świecie.
Ze względu na rozmiar świata, oraz ilość nieprzyjaznych stworzeń nieodłączną częścią eksploracji jest też budowanie baz, połączeń kolei między nimi pozwalającej na szybką podróż, oraz elementy rolnictwa, bo dobre pożywienie daje nam siłę do walki i przywraca zdrowie. Jako że są to podziemia, wszędzie jest ciemno, co trochę spowalnia i utrudnia poruszanie się po świecie. Jednak należy ostrożnie przeć naprzód, pokonać mniejszych wrogów, jak i bossów, by finalnie uruchomić starożytne ruiny i dowiedzieć się jakim cudem w ogóle w tym świecie się znaleźliśmy.
Na razie gra jest jedynie w early accessie, ale - szczerze? - pojęcia nie wiem dlaczego. Nie znalazłam ani bugów, gameplay wciąga jak bagno, możliwe, że nie dodano jeszcze zakończenia, bo nie dotarłam tak daleko, ale normalnie twórcy gier po prostu wydaliby grę i ending w osobnym DLC, a tu po obniżonej cenie mamy kawał dobrej rozgrywki, którą w dodatku możemy dzielić ze znajomymi.
W zasadzie przypomina mi to Terrarię, z tymże pod ziemią i z możliwością chodzenia we wszystkich kierunkach świata. Nawet biomy są podobne. Mniejszy nacisk na budowanie bazy, większy na kopanie i radzenie sobie z ciemnością i wrogami. Jednakże na tyle inną Terrarię, by nie wzbudzać podejrzeń plagiatu, a i by gracze mieli nadal co odkrywać. Ok, znajdziemy tu nie tylko podobne surowce i wrogów, ale sam fakt, że nie jest to w 2D, zupełnie zmienia rozgrywkę.
