About the Game

WRC features around 78 rally cars from various categories of the real life championship for which the game is named. These include Pumas, the Hyundai i20N, the GR Yaris from Toyota and many more. There are also 68 classic rally cars for you to try out – unless you want to us Car Builder to create and customize your own car.

Once you have chosen or created your perfect rally car, you can immediately hit over 200 driving stages from eighteen real rally circuits. This covers over 600 kilometres of terrain that varies from asphalt to gravel to snow. This will feel more challenging than it sounds as the tarmac psychics and changeable weather will make the vehicle respond differently according to the conditions at the time.
Central Rally Europe is a latecomer to the locations, added – just as in life – in the 2023 WRC calendar. This rally starts in Prague and heads off in a challenging route through the Czech Republic, Lower Bavaria and Austria. Chile and Mexico are back, but New Zealand, Catalunya and Belgium are no longer featured.

The weather conditions are a new addition to the gameplay, and driving the exact same route in the exact same car will feel very different when the season has changed, giving you, basically, four ways to play each stage and race. Extreme weather can blight your races too, with lighting, rain and snow all take their toll on your vehicle, as does any damage you incur through racing without sufficient care and attention!
However, when condition are right, your car is beautifully responsive, going exactly where you tell it to, and letting you know when you do something wrong that makes the car misbehave. But you will learn from your mistakes and ace that particular stage or corner next time, so it’s all good! The road surfaces all feel different under your hand, so be aware of them: with tarmac feeling ‘safe’ and gravel giving a little too much under the back tyres.

If you just want a quick game, you can choose quick matches in which the game makes all the decisions for you, setting you up with a car, a track and a race with no input from you. But on the other hand, if you crave control, you can do that too: customising and perfecting your car before each race and even get a feel for the track before you commit to joining the race.

The Nitty Gritty

The game features multiplayer mode for up to thirty-two players – and it is cross-platform so your friends with other consoles could potentially race against you. There is also virtual reality mode for those who really want to feel as though they are in a rally.
There are no paid microtransactions within the game. Instead you will earn XP and rewards by racing and working your way up the leaderboard. This does mean, however, that you will have to mind your budget as repairs and upgrades can cost a lot so you might end up choosing to do bare-minimum repairs to stay on the road, rather than completing restoring the car between races.

If you select beginner when you start up the game, you will be put into driving school, where you will go through training to get you road ready for your first race. It begins with basic driving skills and goes all the way up to handbrake stops and judicious speeding. The game makes sure that your car handles well when you are a newbie, gradually introducing more realistic issues as you gain the skills and knowledge to deal with them.

Ways to Play

Once you are out of the rally school – if you choose beginner to start off, the game presents you with various ways to play:

Quick Play: allows you to generate a Rally Championship and play through it. You have numerous events to pick, different conditions to decide, and even fine-tune the racing experience. This is for players who want to enjoy the game in their free time

Moments: are real-world highlights from the history of WRC. You relieve these moments and play through them. It’s a great addition for WRC fans who want to enjoy some of their favourite moments from the game

Career mode: where you run a WRC team from scratch. You create a team to take on the gruelling World Rally Championship. You can work your way up from the bottom in Junior WRC or start straight at the top in the Rally 1 Class. You'll then work with a Chief Engineer and Benefactor, who will supply funding and give you objectives. Drive well, and you'll earn a bigger budget for hiring teammates, recruiting engineers, and buying new cars

Build your own rally car mode: lets you build and test your own modern rally car from scratch. Begins with you selecting the chassis, shell, and the various mechanical components before turning your attention to the livery editor to personalise your car's appearance. You do need to stick to your budget and you might need to rely on used components to stay financially secure. Everything can be customised, right down to the mudflaps
