Miracle of Modern Times or Are We the Problem? A Reckoning

Project Motorracing is truly a miracle of modern gaming history. A medical miracle even. Because I didn’t know you could rip hope out of a human body in such a brutal way without anesthesia. I was so blinded by this marketing-soaked glitter dream that for a moment I thought about adopting the game and giving it a name. Luckily my brain swung by just in time and cancelled the preorder before I had to be ashamed forever. Project Motorracing is a textbook example of how to take a dream, shove it into a trash can, light it on fire and then claim it is artistic vision.

And please do not come at me with the phrase that the developers put their heart and soul into it. If that was heart and soul then it definitely was not human. Some demon must have fallen asleep during the design meeting and accidentally handed in his grocery list. And everyone reacted with an excited wow this is innovative. Giants as the publisher must be gagging into their morning coffee by now and wondering if they should have become bakers instead. Public relations for this game should count as a high risk job because they probably show up every day with a folder full of excuses.

I imagine someone in the office playing this thing and shouting yes man this is it this is exactly how reality drives. And everyone else nods in panic because nobody wants to tell that person they urgently need a vacation or maybe an exorcism. There is so much self deception in this project that you could register it as a religion.

I mean you cannot seriously look me in the eye and say that someone started this thing and thought wow this will be game of the year. Somewhere there must be a lab where someone tried to clone the soul of a racing game and what came out was this twitching creature whispering for help as soon as you try to drive in a straight line. And then someone said perfect send it.

The marketing campaign felt like a romantic date with champagne roses and candlelight and then the game enters the room like a damp washcloth with engine noises telling you that dreams are overrated. I feel like an investor who funded an invisible roller coaster. You only hear screams but you see nothing.

And then you stand there as a fan and honestly think maybe it is me. Maybe I simply had unrealistic expectations for a racing game like drivable driving or fun.

Maybe someone on the team should take a deep breath think for a moment and realize that you cannot inflate a dream with hot air until it bursts. Just a simple concept.

So now someone can sit down and think about that.

And you know what the best part is. By now I seriously wonder if we might actually be the problem. Maybe we the players are simply overwhelmed by this groundbreaking vision of a racing game without fun. Maybe we do not understand the driving physics because we are too used to cars functioning on asphalt. Maybe our expectations are broken because we foolishly believe a racing game should be able to drive look decent and not fall apart like an IKEA chair in a storm.

Maybe we have been spoiled by Forza Motorsport ACC LMU GT7 this decadent luxury world where brakes actually brake corners are actual corners and menus do not look like tax forms. Maybe instead of asking questions we should have lit a candle and prayed during preorder. Maybe we are simply not ready for the future. Maybe Project Motorracing is a test and we all failed it.

Or here is a crazy theory maybe the game is simply not good and we are just humans with functioning eyes ears and expectations. But who am I to demand reality.

Either way I will stick with Forza LMU GT7 and wait until Project Motorracing decides whether it wants to be a game at all. Until then I will watch the spectacle from a safe distance with popcorn and common sense.

Very nice game after latest updates! Excellent feeling of the cars handling and physics when you adjust the force feedback setting to match your equipment. AI drivers in singleplayer are also good and take you in cobsideration on track.

Very overhyped product.

Beware of buying PC version, which is nothing more than buggy arcade. It’s not a simulation.

Awesome soundtrack. The rest is an average with console driving physics. Potential wasted. I feel cheated.

Game is decent. It needs some work and some polish. It has a good amount of tracks and cars so it is full content. I think the game will improve as time goes one

The worst racing game I’ve ever played. Besides terrible force feedback, physics, and sound… Became barely loads and I’ve only been able to get into one multiplayer race. Never connects me. This game is DOA do not buy. I’m just bummed out. I can’t get a refund for it. The worst purchase I’ve ever made. You’ve been warned .

Extremely disappointing.

The graphics are very underwhelming, clearly worse than Assetto Corsa Competizione.

But the worst part is the driving feel: the physics and force feedback are simply bad, with poorly explained settings that make proper tuning almost impossible.

There was a lot of marketing hype, but in the end it feels misleading.

This is not a true 1.0 release—more like an early 0.5 beta at best.

Optimization is terrible, with major performance issues.

Avoid for now.
