Description

Elden Ring for PC is an action role playing game (ARPG) written by superstars George R R Martin (the author of the Song of Ice and Fire series of books which begat television show Game of Thrones) and Hidetaka Miyazake (who is famed for many popular video games: from the Souls series, to Bloodborne, to Sekiro amongst many others).

About the Game

The Elden Ring has been destroyed and its shards have scattered throughout the lands, forming the Great Runes. Some of these shards have fallen into the hands of the children of Queen Marika the Eternal, and the promise of even more power has corrupted each of the six demi-gods.

The people who live on the land, used to enjoy the Grace of the Ring, given by the Erdtree, which showed with a kind of golden glow in the eyes – this glow has faded, indicating the loss of Grace, and those who remain are now called ‘the Tarnished.’ You are one of them, an exile from the Lands Between, because of the loss of Grace – and now it is your job to find the shards, restore the Ring and become Elden Lord, returning good to the land.

The Lands Between is a vast open world system so you can wander through the six regions (one per boss/ demi-god) in the Lands Between:
exploring castles, fortresses, catacombs, caves, grassy plains, suffocating swamps, spiralling mountains and so much more.

Each demi-god (being one of the Queen’s children) rules their section of the land, and eventually defeating them is the equivalent of a boss battle. All defeated enemies are transformed into spirits who can then be summoned to help you out when you need it. This summoning is also available in multiplayer mode – although in this case you call up other players to give you a hand!

For unexplained reasons, you have a spectral horse to ride as you wrest the shards from the demi-gods and hope to impress the Erdtree into restoring your Grace.

The Nitty Gritty

The intense combat scenes thrive on close-up melees in which you get hands-on with the enemies. However, there is also a newly introduced stealth mode for those who prefer to sidle past rather than attack.

Instead of skill trees, you will find advances in skill and weaponry by exploring the map and discovering hoards, crafting what you need, and chatting to NCPs and demons alike to see what tips and gifts they can offer you.

The character is fully customisable so you can tweak your look to your own satisfaction. Gameplay, while hard, is still not be as tricky as some of the Souls games. Pay attention to the weather, though, as there is a weather and time system which can affect your success rate.

Other details to be aware of include the fact that you can fast travel between places, there is a central hub area which you can access after completing the game to a pre-set point – access to it is not given, it must be earned! Your stamina bar is a useful measure of how you’re doing, you can change readily between the wide array of weapons, and your magical horse can go straight up sheer cliffs!

Ways to Play

  • Story Mode: Single player mode sees you exploring the large and detailed open world setting, exploring to your heart’s content and solving quests as you like

  • PVP: Multi-player mode sets you up against fellow players to battle to see who is the best!

  • Co-op: Play with up to three of your friends (in a team of four, in other words) and enjoy the banter and working together to achieve your goals

  • Elden Ring for PC is available for purchase on Instant Gaming for a fraction of its retail price. You will receive an official key and be able to play the game in seconds. Play smart. Pay less.

Best game ever made. Gaming experience on top! I can highely recommend this game. Could be hard to get into but after a few youtube-guides you cant get away from this. If you can't afford it, sell your family ×_×

Elden Ring is an exceptional game that I thoroughly enjoyed. While I typically dont play Souls-like games, this one captured my attention because of its open world nature, allowing for exploration, farming, and building up your character to take on challenging bosses. I didnt encounter any major bugs or issues during my playthrough, which speaks to the games quality and polish. I highly recommend purchasing it, as its truly a masterpiece that offers great value for your money.

This game will go down as one of the greatest games of all time.

Think you've ran out of things to do? There is a map coming up shortly, with another section unlocked double the size of the map you've seen so far.

"Oh I've seen everything now." There is a well in a forest, unlocking an entire map full of life living under your feet the entire time.

The bosses? Oh the bosses... Some of the most memorable bosses live within this game. Rykard, Malenia, Starscourge Radahn... to name a few.
    • Beautifully crafted gameplay.
    • Incredible boss design
    • THE MUSIC!!!!
    • It's sometimes unclear where you need to go next. Even with the bonfire hints, you can become lost.

    Elden Ring Review

    The game itself:

Elden Ring is a fantastic, immersive and expansive game. One of the greatest games of our time, made to be a one time purchase not plagued with micro- or macro- transactions. Although it is a very difficult game, it is rewarding and nevertheless worthwhile; an experience that truly respects your time.

    The possibilities

There are limitless combinations and ways of playing the game. There are 309 weapons in the game spread out over 32 weapon classes and 171 magic spells divided into 70 sorceries and 101 incantations. The game is non-linear meaning you do not have to play in any specific order, you can reach the mid-game areas of the game from the very beginning. The game is meant to be explored at your own pace, with around 10 major areas and many sub-areas, dungeons and secrets to be discovered. It is a game that truly allows the player to play into their explorative side, with many large areas and bosses that you simply would miss if you didn’t explore.

    The design

It has a really well crafted story, written by the one and only George R.R. Martin. It sports world and character design that grants awe at sight, and equally great soundtrack and voice acting. The writing for this game has inspired me to pursue writing myself even and has gotten me into other works of George R.R. Martin, such as Game of Thrones.

    The Graphics

As many have written about the game before me, it is raw graphical fidelity is not impressive compared to newer games. This does not mean it is by any means bad, but it is nothing revolutionary. But the area it excels is art style, it looks great despite it’s graphics and manages to shine in a sea of graphically impressive games.

    The difficulty

The learning curve is steep but most that play through it till the end do not regret it. Due to its nonlinear nature, if something is too difficult you can come back to it later. It also has a leveling system that allows you to get progressively better stat-wise, although you still can’t beat the game truly through stats at least in most cases.

    PC optimization

The keyboard controls featured in elden ring are awful and are such a bad translation from the controller layout, and the pc optimization is just as awful as FromSoftware is known for. Although MUCH better than on launch, it is still fairly choppy at times and will struggle on weaker computers. For context I am running a rtx 3080 and the performance varies a lot at times. Some bigger areas and more densely packed and resource intensive areas such as Leyndell is a big problem when it comes to this.

    Do I recommend it?

I can only recommend purchasing the game to anyone and everyone. FromSoftware is a great company that knows what to do and how to do it, they never over or under sell their products, no false advertisements and they avoid spoilers at all costs. They respect the player and the fandom and have no cases (not that i am aware of at least) of bad, deceptive or manipulative market practices. Although this kind of game is one that will both appeal to many, and drive many off, with respect to the genre it’s a part of it and it’s more difficult nature. If this or the many other reviews, text or video, aren’t enough then you must simply trust your own judgement. I myself have had over 450 hours (481.2 hours at writing) of game time and am currently planning a longer play session with 5 of my friends, a longer journey with hand written notes and quest log and a customized map we fill out ourselves with location names, dungeons, bosses, etc. over time (a sort of dnd styled co-op playthrough). I cannot stress how good this game is, and FromSoftware deserves every piece of praise they have gotten for their games and I am looking forward to their new DLC; Shadow of The Erdtree.

Elden Ring is the closest you get to the dark souls formula being perfected, that works great as a nonlinear open world game.

    • Difficult but rewarding gameplay
    • Not very accessible (devs are working on it)
    • Bad PC optimization

In the 87 hours that it took me to beat Elden Ring, I was put through an absolute wringer of emotion: Anger as I was beaten down by its toughest challenges, exhilaration when I finally overcame them, and a fair amount of sorrow for the mountains of exp I lost along the way to some of the toughest boss encounters FromSoftware has ever conceived. But more than anything else I was in near-constant awe – from the many absolutely jaw-dropping vistas, the sheer scope of an absolutely enormous world, the frequently harrowing enemies, and the way in which Elden Ring nearly always rewarded my curiosity with either an interesting encounter, a valuable reward, or something even greater. FromSoftware takes the ball that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild got rolling and runs with it, creating a fascinating and dense open world about freedom and exploration above all else, while also somehow managing to seamlessly weave a full-on Dark Souls game into the middle of it. It shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that Elden Ring ended up as one of the most unforgettable gaming experiences I’ve ever had.

Thrown into the game without even a hint of tutorial. Lack of "translation" of the keyboard/joypad buttons.

If I could I would ask for a refund.

Game of the year for a reason.

Huge amount of customization, huge open world, perfect combat that is rewarding and punishing.

The game is hard but is far from unbeatable, all it takes is a little patience.

Not for story lovers as the story in Elden Ring as in Souls games is mostly hidden and fragmented throughout the world and it's items, even in music lyrics. But if you love a mystery and open story concepts then you might just love it.

I love this game. It's my favorite type of game "souls-like" and of course this the art of the best game developer Hidetaka Miyazaki. His games are at another level and unique, and this game is another kind of level. Seriously.

To set the stage, all you know from the outset is that you play as a “Tarnished” of no renown, blessed by grace, and are compelled to make the journey to The Lands Between and become an Elden Lord. What that actually means, how one might go about doing that, and what the deal is with that giant glowing golden tree are all things that you have to discover yourself. Like other FromSoft games, the grand story is hard to fully digest on a first playthrough, especially because there’s no in-game journal to refresh you on the events, characters, or unique terms you encounter across dozens of hours. There really should be, but it is a story I nonetheless enjoyed trying to piece together for myself. I look forward to supplementing that knowledge with the inevitable painstakingly detailed lore videos that emerge from the community later. It ended up being the organic side stories that kept me most enthralled rather than the grand overarching plot that credits Game of Thrones’ George R.R. Martin as its scenario writer. FromSoft smartly doesn’t change much in its approach to these from the Souls games, Bloodborne, or Sekiro; you’ll just naturally meet characters as you explore and discover the world and become involved in their problems. There are no “!” markers on the map, no waypoints to guide you to them, and these characters don’t always flag you down or initially want or need anything from you. They’re just people with their own agendas and goals, whose stories are impacted based on your own actions or inactions. That was actually kind of refreshing in an open world as vast as this one, and it was always exciting to see a familiar face pop up again later as I was eager to learn about what brought them to this new part of the world and how their journey had progressed. The trade-off, of course, is that without any markers, quest log, or journal, it becomes very easy to forget about certain plot threads and accidentally leave them unresolved by the end.

Elden Ring was most definitely a worthwhile purchase for multiple reasons. Firstly, it is a collaboration between FromSoftware and George R.R. Martin, two renowned and talented entities in the gaming and fantasy literature worlds, respectively. This convergence of skill and creativity promises an immersive and captivating experience like no other.

Furthermore, the game boasts an expansive open-world setting, a departure from the more confined areas found in previous FromSoftware titles. This shift allows players to explore vast landscapes, discover hidden secrets, and take on exhilarating quests, enhancing the sense of adventure and the feeling of being part of a living, breathing world.

Moreover, Elden Ring introduces an innovative gameplay mechanic called the "Mounted Combat System," allowing players to engage in epic battles while riding on fantastical creatures. This feature adds a whole new dimension to combat strategy and further enriches the gameplay experience.

In addition, the reputation of FromSoftware for crafting challenging, yet rewarding gameplay mechanics is well-known, and Elden Ring is no exception. It provides a sense of accomplishment and progression with its unique combat system, pushing players to learn, adapt, and overcome obstacles, which only adds to the overall satisfaction of playing the game.

Overall, the combination of a compelling storyline, the collaborative efforts of esteemed creators, an expansive open-world, and innovative gameplay mechanics make Elden Ring a truly exceptional and worthwhile purchase for any fan of fantasy RPGs.

7/10 score. At 50% sale it's a great game. Gameplay is abit clunky, the rebinding of keys to controls is not that great and the overall maneuvring lacks flexibility. Some moves only made possible with equiping certain weapons should've instead been included in the general range of moves.

Beautiful visuals though, especially the tree in the middle.

Probably my fav of the Soulsborne series (BB had a better ambience and storytelling imo, but everything else is spotless here). The combat is tight, both in PVP and PVE, and the dev support and care is apparent. The game is masterfully crafted, and just when you think you're about to be done with it there's always more surprises around the corner.
