Description
Hogwarts Legacy for PC is a single player action adventure role-playing game based on the Harry Potter universe, in which the player takes on the persona of a newcomer to the enchanted castle so beloved of fans of the books and movie franchise.
This game is set in the late 1800s, so there is no overlap with any characters from the movie and book canon, although some of the ghosts you know and love may pop up to guide you on your way – or hinder and delay you, if you annoy them!
Unique – and central – to this game are NCPs (non-playing characters) Victor Rookwood (who is the sort of pre-Voldemort leader of the Dark Wizards – precursors to the Death Eaters), Professor Eleazar Fig who is your form teacher and ally, and the deliciously evil rebellious goblin leader, Ranrok, who trusts no human and especially no wizard!
You are a student about to start your fifth year who transfers to Hogwarts from somewhere else following a mysterious accident. Slowly it emerges that you are the possessor of the key to an ancient secret that could tear the wizarding world apart.
Ranrok hates all wizardkind, but has allied himself with Rookwood in order to get hold of an ancient magic. An ancient magic which is so dangerous that wizardkind has tried to hide it from itself – and that you, unexpectedly, turn out to be the one wizard that is the key to the unleashing of this ancient magic!
Needless to say, Rookwood is in danger if Ranrok succeeds, but Rookwood is dangerous enough on his own behalf. You, as the student, must work with Fig to keep the magic’s secret and avert the goblin rebellion…
You will attend classes, in between saving wizarding civilisation, in Charms, Herbology, Defence Against the Dark Arts, and Potions, and in between classes you can explore much further afield than simply the castle. The Hidden Forest, Hogsmeade and Gringotts Bank are all accessible and fully explorable
The open world setting will change with the seasons, and you can choose your house, and customise your playing character in many ways including voice, body type, gender and wand selection. All of this adds up to mean that each player can enjoy a tailor-made and very different gaming experience.
As noted above, the game is open world and positively begs exploration as you interact with NCPs like Nearly Headless Nick, Peeves the poltergeist – who is known and loved by readers of the books, but never quite made it into the movies, although the part was filmed for the first movie, starring the late great Rik Myall – and the Fat Lady, who guards the Gryffindor dormitories.
The Room of Requirement features in the game too, serving a much wider purpose than previously seen. Players will be able to customise it to their needs and preferences and it operates as a kind of common room, growing plants, doing research and tweaking your customisation as you need to.
The game’s in-built morality system will allow wannabe villains to tackle the killing curse if they dare, or you can make friends with everyone you meet – including classmates who will grow and develop alongside you, offering handy aid at tricky moments.
There are no microtransactions in the game: everything you get will be earned the hard way, there are no shortcuts for the rich to take and get ahead.
Care of Magical Creatures is a must as you will interact, take care of and even battle using:
Hogwarts Legacy for PC is available for purchase on Instant Gaming for a fraction of its retail price. You will receive an official key and be able to play the game in seconds. Play smart. Pay less.

Fantastic Beasts and How to Care for Them
Care of Magical Creatures is a must as you will interact, take care of and even battle using:
- Dragons: never mind the ban on breeding dragons, in Hogwarts you can raise your very own pet incinerator on which you can ride, cuddle and battle. Just don’t forget to feed them
- Nifflers: the cute and cuddly mole-platypus-magpies return again, snaffling up anything shiny and simultaneously annoying and charming you
- Trolls: more animal than humanoid in this game, trolls are firmly in the creature camp rather than the wizard camp here
- Hippogriffs: Buckbeak (aka Witherwings) and co return to terrify and delight you as well as coming in jolly useful in the battling stakes with both sharp claws and a fearsome beak to put to good use against your enemies
- Mandrakes: technically plants, but considering their roots are screeching and intensely grumpy babies, they fall under the ‘magical creatures’ umbrella. Use ear defenders when potting them, and unleash them on your enemies when you are in a pinch

Hogwarts Legacy is the best-selling game of 2023, ahead of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Nintendo's recent financial results revealed that the latest Zelda sold 20.28 million copies last year. It's an impressive result, really, but not the best-selling title of 2023.
That award goes to Hogwarts Legacy, which climbed to 22 million units, according to Warner Bros. However, this comparison…

Fun open world, polished, great even if you have never looked at HP books or movies. The environment is amazing and you can tell the developers really cared. Would recommend this game to anyone looking to take a break from live service!

The game looks good, not the best, not the worst. Gameplay is good, and the performance is reasonable if you have a good CPU. If you like a game with magic and in the Harry Potter univers this is the one.

The game is great if you plan to have an amasing journey. It's more like a visit than anything else actually.
You have some gameplay mechanics, but those are all way to basics. Fight sounds fun at first, but is not appealing after the first few hours. Enemies aren't challenging, even the last boss, no matter the difficulty level you pick. You can't combo based on your skill, enemies only have a weakness happening once they start one of their 2 skills (most only have 2 different skills they'll use).
The world is ridden with to many collectibles you don't have to look for, you just have to walk for. There is no adventure in the game as everything is spoiled by the game itself. May those be locations, spells, enemies, etc. You don't have to find weakness, those are directly explained to you once you encounter that enemy. Locations are almost all instant discovered,, ... .
The overall writting for this game is pretty poor.
Characters are lame at best, they're all nice. You'll have hard time noticing any difference between any house you'll pick, as there is none. As said, characters are all nice, and no matter what you decide to do, this has 0 impact on them / their behaviour. The game evolve during an entire year, but almost nothing change on a year, may it be the others characters, or even the MC. The bad guys are just randomly bad, and the good guys are randomly good.
The few characters you'll meet don't have any personnality aswell. They're naives, silly and pathetics at best.
The story is lame. Things happens because they need to happens, not because there is a strong story design. It is exactly the same with side stories, not appealing, except the only one that can be somehow darker than the others, as that side questline allow you to unlock dark arts spells.
No bosses in the game has specific encounter mechanics / spells, except the last boss, which is a really weak point.
The fly may be ok,, but the camera lock don't really do it. You can't look around, can't look under or uper you. The camera is forced on the direction you're going.
You've got to limited and hard scripted interactions possibles withing the world. All the school students won't say a single thing depending on your actions. They're like decorative elements only.
The world feel sadly empty. You've got not much to do, mostly caves fillers with only one chest in them and nothing to do to reach the said chest. Some "enigmas" you've got to resolve, but again, those are to vastly copy pasted to be interesting. Many bandits.. sorry, I mean "dark sorcerers" camps to clean in the sole purpose to find a chest with no interest whatsoever.
You've got to few potions to craft, the way those are crafted may be inspired directly from mobile games.
There is some housing, which can be good, but there is no point in doing it. The idea is great but it's application is just way to cheap, as it is for almost all game's mechanics.
The game have some of the best graphics I've seen, as well as animations. But mechanics are way to cheap for it to be good.
The game do what ubisoft did during the last years with open world rpgs, but it does it on a wish version.
I won't talk to much about the "woke americanisation" of almost every title we have seen during the last years, that one is not an exception. You feel the forced "need of representation" which is not coherent with the paradigma in which that story has to evolve.
Without any upgrade of core mechanics, or the addition of new ones, to me, that game can't be recommanded

Bought this one for the gf because she loves Harry Potter...... I haven't been able to use my Steam Deck ever since....... She's not a gamer but is already 100+ hours into the Hogwarts world and tells me she's not even half way through the story with a smile on her face...
Will update this review whenever I have a chance to try it myself

best HP game !
Very solid start, cool wizard battle, Hogwart is fantastic !!
What a joy to dive into this world, as a 90's kid, the nostalgia is real !
Surely we will have a Hogwart Legacy 2 in the future and i can't wait for it !
Hopefully, the game will be heavily modded, extending the game's substantial lifespan !

I've opted to not buy HL for a while due to the Harry Potter inventor but the games open world and of course me enjoying the Harry Potter World made me get the game for my PC neverteheless. The game cought me right away and even the "tutorial" section was surprisingly fun. First impression of the people was that they could be more realistic but after more than 50 hours of playing everything fits in well.
Graphics are lovely, the villages, meadows, mountains, lakes, everything is beautifully designed with so much love for details. Realistic but then again not hyper realistic, all in all matching the people in a good way.
If at all I would've wished for more different maps for the treasure caves (please forgive my english wordings here I'm no native speaker). Those can seem kinda repetitive, same goes for Merlins quests - while the first few are challenging, once you know hot to solve them you wish for more variance.
But the main story is just so well done. Sidequests for exporing the world, learning the mechanics and a big (not huge) map offering so much to explore, even offering different seasons that are tied to the main story, each with its own beautifully done colours and lightings, be it spring flowers, autumn leaves and halloween pumpkins or heavy snow in winter. Love it.
All of this is perfectly framed with an awesome soundtrack. It's like an orchestra is playing for you only. Maybe just some additional tracks for certain spots would be nice - like Hogsmeade. Why not make it spooky during Halloween or some jingles during winter? Also spoken voices are well done (speaking for the German version) and fit their characters well.
Concerning difficulty I played everything on "normal" setting so far and especially in the beginning it took quite some time to get used to the mechanics. Whoever thinks auto-targetting makes fighting a breeze is wrong. It can be rather challenging and the number of spells, plants and potions that can be used for fights causes a rather steep learning curve - at least for me. My suggestion is to take time for side quests, enjoy the world, level up, improve the armour and bit by bit progress with the main story line.
Now, what's bad about HL? There's not much to say TBH. There're very few bugs; once a fight wouldn't end after leaving the forbidden forrest causing quicktravel to not work, another time I dove into a cave only to fly up afterwards being stuck to the caves ceiling. But that happened just once, all good. Performance is totally fine on my 2023 rig averaging in 4k at 60fps. If I could place wishes I would have wanted more challenging riddles and more differences in the treasure caves. Also I would've wished to find some more "unique" objects in treasure chests, not just stuff to enhance the main characters optics.
All in all I love this game, enjoying every minute in it. I'm the type of player who can play hours just running around, searching Merlins Puzzles (done all of them) or find old magic or open the last treasure cave in between needed steps of the main story. Especially the main story brings so much joy and even after 50 hours of playing nice surprises. Been a damn good buy.

- Lovely graphics
- Orchestral soundtrack
- Really nice main story
- steep learning curve for fights
- some puzzles could be less repetitive

if there was some games that could describe what a 10/10 slowly becoming a 4/10 the you play it, it would be this game. Started like a Lamborghini, finished the game as a crashed car. not gonna buy anything out of childhood memorys again
- graphic
- good range of spells you can use
- prof. Garlic
- repetitive as hell (in everything you need to do)
- boring side missions (90 %of the time)
- avada kedavra is 4 quest from the end of the game

Hogwarts Legacy is the perfect Harry Potter fans game. I really enjoyed play this game. It allows us to discover in details the world of Hogwarts and its surroundings. But the negative point is that for make the game at 100%, it's long and the quests are really repetitive.
- Good story
- Open world
- Magic world
- Repetitive quests
- Long to have the 100%
