I grew up playing Silent Hill on PS1, so coming back to the same game but with completely redesigned graphics and gameplay is just awesome. I love everything about it as a game in whole. But some technical issues like graphic performance drops can happen. The weird thing is that its performance dropped after I updated my NVIDIA graphics driver to the latest current version. Before that I hadn't updated it since summer 2025 but it was playing just fine. After the update, it started dropping below 60fps, with stuttering and all that nasty stuff. I just reverted back to version 577 of the graphics drivers and it runs much better. I have an RTX 3070 laptop.

To summarise the key things, this game nailed its atmosphere, looked stunning, was genuinely scary at times and had such a great story by the end. However the gameplay overall lacked variety and depth to the point the second half of the game felt like an utter chore to play so it's hard to rank it super highly as it's meant to be a game first and foremost.

I'd give this game a 10/10 as a visual + audio experience but a 2.5/10 for the actual gameplay. Overall probably somewhere between a 7 and a 9 out of 10 depending on how I weigh the two factors.

Superb recreation and the expanded exploration is a treat. But, I feel that the combat misses the mark—there's too much of it and it becomes tedious instead of adding to the horror. Nor is the gameplay smooth enough to make the repeative encounters enjoyable (compared to something like RE2make or Dead Space). Still an easy recommend for survival horror fans; world oozes dread and the devs honor the original.

The game itself is really good, the story is great, graphics are great. It has quite an atmosphere.

Sometimes the game tends to have FPS drops when new levels are loading on the map.

Silent Hill 2 is one of the greatest remakes in recent years sitting high on the list right next to Resident Evil 2.

So many people clowned how the game looked when the gameplay trailer dropped years ago, but the game itself has silenced any doubts.

Don't hesitate to buy this game.
