Description

When the wife of the best-selling writer Alan Wake disappears on their vacation, his search turns up pages from a thriller he doesn’t even remember writing. A Dark Presence stalks the small town of Bright Falls, pushing Wake to the brink of sanity in his fight to unravel the mystery and save his love.

Presented in the style of a TV series, Alan Wake features the trademark Remedy storytelling and pulse-pounding action sequences. As players dive deeper and deeper into the mystery, they’ll face overwhelming odds, plot twists, and cliffhangers. It’s only by mastering the Fight With Light combat mechanic that they can stay one step ahead of the darkness that spreads across Bright Falls.

With the body of an action game and the mind of a psychological thriller, Alan Wake’s intense atmosphere, deep and multilayered story, and exceptionally tense combat sequences provide players with an entertaining and original gaming experience.

Enhanced for the PC

  • Includes Alan Wake Special Episodes “The Signal” and “The Writer”
  • Experience Alan Wake’s Pacific Northwest in higher resolutions and higher fidelity than the Xbox360 version.
  • Fully configurable mouse and keyboard support, or if you prefer to play with the Steam or Microsoft gamepad connected to your PC, you can do that too!
  • Lots of customizable graphics settings and support for 4:3, 16:9 and 16:10 aspect ratios!
  • Multithreaded engine that takes advantage of quad core CPUs.

At first confusing, but ultimately a great piece by Remedy. From the wicked story of a writer and his fights with his own creations, to the unique gameplay, visually and atmospherically, to the one of a kind horror experience, it's a rare and interesting concept for a game. Even though it definitely has it's flaws, it's undisputed that it represents a very important piece in it's genre.

The game starts kind of slowly, but I must say that end of the first and entire second chapter is absolutely amazing and a highlight for me. I can't say that I'm satisfied with the ending though, the last episode dragged on way longer than it should have. What I'm not a big fan of either is the combat, it really doesn't introduce much after the first two episodes and everything just feels the same, like you're stuck in a loop, but I must say that it's interesting at times since you don't really get this type of combat in other games. The other thing that will probably irritate you a lot is the amount of times your inventory gets reset - almost every episode, sometimes even multiple times during the episode, so you don't really feel any progression in that sense.

Then the sequences with the surreal environment... they're very weird, and I have probably spent more time laughing at how goofy it is than actually focusing on the game. A literal fridge trying to end your life multiple times. Or a tractor. But I did enjoy the bulldozer part... The first time, other three times - not so much. And that's probably the biggest flaw this game has, it has decent mechanics, but it just gets way too repetitive and uninteresting eventually.

And to whoever put that SAME EARRAPE "throwback flash" cutscene 50 times, I hope you're having a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ morning.

It's an interesting game and I'd still recommend it, especially considering how cheap you can get this for.

“If our lives are already written, it would take a courageous man to change the script.”

Alan Wake fits perfectly into its genres: its plot is a most-exciting thriller and its gameplay is a nightmarish horror. I’m not a big fan of the horror genre (I get scared way too easily), but a friend recommended the game to me after I had finished playing A Plague Tale: Innocence (which I also don’t know how I had the nerve to try out), so I decided to give it a try. And I have to tell you: there was a lot of crying. Yes, there were points in the plot that made me cry, too, but mostly it was because I was so scared. I wanted to quit playing several times, simply because I knew I’d have trouble sleeping at night, but the plot was sooo good that I just had to keep going to see how things will turn out. After a while I got used to being scared (although that didn’t make the game less terrifying), and I was glad that I stuck around. I was a little sad about the game’s ending (although given that the entire thing started with a Stephen King quote, what was I expecting), and even the DLCs couldn’t satisfy me. I’m still waiting for Alan Wake’s American Nightmare to become available for purchase, and I’m even more eager to see the actual sequel, though there are no news about that, unfortunately…

It is 2019 now, and this game is still one of the best horror-atmospheric games I've ever played. Fantastic story, and graphics are still good and this game is still playable in 2019. ----------------

Base game completed on the PC via Steam in just over 17hrs or so UHD with settings maxed.

The Good
• Using light to fight enemies is a interesting and unique mechanic with added depth due to an impressive light / shadow presentation.
• Characters and story are intriguing and interesting throughout.
• Setting and nods to classic media such as Twin Peaks, The Twilight Zone and 90s TV noir!

The Bad
• Some mechanics don't work as cleanly as intended in places making things more difficult then they perhaps intended to be.
• Vehicle camera, turning and collision somewhat off in places
• Collectibles are easily missable & require playing much of the game again to get after the fact in addition to navigation and trigger issues as well as difficulty lock or cheese (last radio broadcast requires not triggering radio host for instances).

The Ugly
• Some frustrating points in the game requiring repetition due to a clash of mechanics and lack of clarity

The Score
8/10
Great fun and a great experience at the right price (not the longest game ever especially if you don't take it in or look for stuff). An atmospheric immersive story driven adventure with on point characters, setting and some interesting mechanics

Hands down my top 3 game! Compelling story, loads of easter eggs from Max Payne series, amazing sound and gives off a great Twin Peak vibe. My only regret is that there is no 2nd part yet, that would be awesome as hell!

Not bad for an older game, well worth the price! It's got a bit of a Silent Hill/Resident evil vibe going on & the story seems interesting too. I don't want to give out any spoilers so i won't say much, but i would recommend this game
