Decent launch, the game had some issues that have been mostly resolved, crashes, bugs etc. There are still some remaining, but all in all the current gameplay loop, solo session stability, race/faction creation and the core mechanics, are in pretty good shape. There is still a lot of polishing left to do to make this game stand among their other 4X games like Stellaris and EU4, but there is huge potential for this game to be one of the best 4X of its kind.
Now that I've praised the game I should mention a few of its shortcomings. The games tutorial is decent, but it is a bit overwhelming, it tends to overexplain. Overall the tooltips are useful, but not fantastic. Combine this with the questionable UI and it gets a bit annoying.
The games AI is... strange. It's very easily manipulated by doing moves a regular human would see as idiotic, such as sallying out of a siege and leaving the city undefended, however, the AI sees this as an opportunity to attack your main stacks regardless of if they could have taken the city or not. This happens on all AI difficulties. You can also bait the AI armies into going back and forth between your armies and their initial goal. There are improvements needed and I hope they are actively working on the core game and not just developing DLC. (There are already 4 DLC's planned. lol)
On the topic of DLC. There are features in the upcoming DLC's that should have been in the game on launch. Two most notable: More races and a new dimension. I understand that it is a Paradox game and that this is nothing new with their business practices.. but come on. lol
Fun gameplay loop
High replayability
Great customization for factions
Lackluster UI
Wonky AI
Features that should have been in the game(on launch) are coming in future DLC
A very solid and fun 4x game which is similar to Endless Legends but puts a bigger focus on customizable faction and heroes and offers a lot of options for magic and how to use it.
I hope they add some QoL features wich makes item management less annoying.
Extremely poor multiplayer, you're stuck in waiting while any combat occurs... that's when the game doesn't crash. Test with 2 friends, we all have random crashes and files corruption.
The game is great as a solo game but the extreme lack of multiplayer features and unstability makes it impossible to play.
This is a HUGE stepdown from what they did with Crusader Kings 3.... Extremely disappointed.
-Good gameplay
- Better graphics than most Paradox games
- Poorly designed UI, lacking a lot of details (necessary ones too)
- Very unstable multiplayer, works fine in solo
- Extremely trash design as a multiplayer, as explained before.
