Fight as a mighty Valkyrie to repel the forces of the underworld from invading the world of Asgard.

Gameplay
In BPM, all of your actions and the actions of your enemies are tied to the beat of the music. Your enemies perform a dance-like sequence of attacks to an epic rock opera. BPM is inspired by retro shooters of the 90’s. It is fast, frenetic and rhythmical. You can double jump, dash, rocket jump and bunny hop to evade your opponents.

Your goal is to reach the end of randomly generated dungeons, collecting different weapons, abilities and items each time you play. These weapons and abilities can radically alter the way you play, making each playthrough unique.

You must defeat 7 bosses to reach the final boss. Each boss moves and attacks in a unique way that you must learn to exploit if you want to succeed. Some attacks require you to jump over fields of lava, some to dodge fast projectiles, some to hold fast for a beat.

This is an absolutely wonderful game in my opinion. Came out of nowhere and I just love everything about it. BPM : Bullets Per Minute is an FPS Rhythm game. Basically what that means is there is a beat in the background and you can only shoot, reload, jump in sync with the beat. If you are out of sync the gun won't fire.

Without this the game would not feel this special at all. I only play this game on the hardest difficulty as that is where the true fun and point of the game is.

Pros

+ Great music.

+ Lots of variety in your Valkyries, Guns and levels.

+ Levels are procedural so every run in different and fun.

+ On hard difficulty it is suitably challenging making it very rewarding to play.

+ Good movement of your character - jumping, double jumping, dashing , bunny hopping etc.

Cons

- Over-saturated visuals (This was a deliberate choice as game is made by a small team and they used assets from various sources so using this look blends things nicely. You can also tweak the settings a bit).

- Easier difficulties are a bit too easy (I know weird complaint but if you were to play the game on easy you would miss the entire point of the game. This is meant to be played on hard).

As stated previously I am a huge fan of this game. Every now and then I get an urge to play this game. I play for a few hours and then move on and come back again some time later. There are plenty of guns available in your runs, different Valkyries with different play-styles, random dungeons that change every-time sometimes resulting in truly funny and bizarre ones.

This is a small indie game that is on decent sales frequently. They have even added the option to add your own custom music. Haven't tried it but I can imagine it adding more enjoyment even though I think the original music is fantastic.
