Simulation games are dime a dozen nowadays, and have become a must for any self-respecting gamer. Some of these immerse us in a routine close to reality, while others lets us take part in most unusual activities. Add to that the famous life sims popularized by The Sims, of which several clones have emerged to varying degrees of success.
But when we speak of simulators, many think of racing games whose graphics come close to the coveted photorealism. The recent Assetto Corsa EVO is the perfect ambassador for this, despite it being still in early access. To guarantee immediate fun, Wreckfest 2 shows great promise. Here, racing isn't enough, as you have to take part in pile-ups while wreaking havoc at every turn. As for RoadCraft, it puts us at the head of a reconstruction company aboard construction vehicles that come in after various natural disasters.
However, when we talk about simulation games, we primarily imagine the possibility of practicing a real job in a virtual world. Ambulance Life: A Paramedic Simulator and Low-Budget Repairs let you experience how it feels to be a paramedic and interior renovator, respectively, and all this through countless extremely addictive missions. These sims can even prove to be very demanding with their approach, which is once again very (and sometimes too) realistic. The downside is that these titles don't necessarily allow you to escape reality.
For that, you'll need to look to the life simulators mentioned above. Here, we find the must-play inZOI. It's a kind of Sims-like game with more detailed graphics and a slightly more realistic approach. Currently in development, Krafton's game will receive even more new features in the months and years to come. Expected in December 2025, Paralives is another life sim, but this time centered around the possibility of building our dream home. Of course, we have to take care of our characters until they die. As for Vivaland, it promotes a more cooperative experience for up to eight players.
At times, sim games can be much more original. PVKK asks us to take control of a planetary defense cannon in order to repel an invasion from the sky. We simply obey orders and press buttons to fire. Then, in I am Jesus, we control the Son of God, whose goal is to perform miracles while exploring the Holy Land, encountering biblical figures along the way.
Thus, sims can take a different approach depending on their chosen theme. Special mention goes to much the relaxing and visually impressive Lushfoil Photography Sim, which will appeal to budding photographers. The best simulation games are not necessarily the most beautiful or realistic, but they are nonetheless interesting, as some compete in terms of inventiveness to keep players engaged for dozens or even hundreds of hours.
In any case, here are the best simulation games to discover and look forward to in 2025.
