I genuinely have nothing negative to say about Onimusha: Way of the Sword. It’s one of those rare games where almost everything just clicks, and the more I play it, the more impressed I am by how much care went into the smallest details.

**5 things I absolutely love about the game:**

**1. Musashi’s movement and animations are on another level**

This is probably the thing that impressed me the most. Musashi doesn’t just feel like a character being controlled by the player – he feels like an actual person.

The way he walks, turns, changes posture and reacts to people or situations feels incredibly natural. It becomes even more obvious during cutscenes, where his body language, facial expressions and small reactions sometimes say more than the dialogue itself.

I honestly can’t remember another game where a main character’s movement felt this fluid and believable. There is almost none of that typical “video game character” stiffness.

**2. The combat system is extremely satisfying**

The combat is easy to understand at first, but has a lot of depth once you start experimenting.

Blocking, dodging, parrying, perfectly timed counters, Issen attacks, Oni abilities and different reactions to enemy attacks give you a huge amount of freedom.

Once everything clicks, fights almost feel choreographed. Moving from a parry into a counter and immediately reacting to the next enemy feels insanely good.

**3. Every hit has weight**

Sword strikes feel powerful. Parries have real impact. Enemies react convincingly instead of simply playing generic hit animations.

The sound design, camera work, animations and effects all work together extremely well. During bigger fights and boss battles, it sometimes feels like you’re controlling a samurai movie rather than simply playing an action game.

**4. The presentation and atmosphere are fantastic**

Kyoto looks beautiful while still feeling dark, dangerous and occasionally genuinely creepy.

The historical Japanese setting mixed with the supernatural Genma elements works perfectly. Character faces, expressions, eye movement and small gestures are also incredibly detailed.

The cutscenes never feel like something you just wait through before getting back to the game. They are a real part of the experience.

**5. It feels focused and confident**

Way of the Sword knows exactly what kind of game it wants to be.

It doesn’t feel like it’s chasing every modern action RPG trend. You get exploration, secrets, progression, great boss fights and a surprisingly deep combat system, but sword fighting always remains at the center.

It keeps the classic Onimusha identity while still feeling completely modern.

**Negatives: 0**

Seriously.

I expected a good action game. What I got is easily one of my favorite action games in years.

The combat alone would make it worth playing, but the animation quality, atmosphere, character movement and attention to detail push it much further.

Musashi in particular might be one of the most naturally animated protagonists I’ve ever seen in a game.

**Capcom absolutely nailed this one.**
