For more than 20 years, LEGO video games have captivated both children and adults, with over 100 titles in the catalogue divided into two major categories. Original productions aim to offer ever more creativity and varied gameplay, while collaborations with licensed properties provide a humorous and accessible reinterpretation of the biggest franchises in cinema, comics, and pop culture. Over time, our little brick-based games have established a unique formula that blends local co-op, exploration, collecting, and playful nods to the original works. Here is a selection of what we think are the 10 best LEGO video games, chosen for their quality, their content, or simply how much fun they are.
Without a doubt the most ambitious one to date, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga covers the nine main films. With modernized gameplay, dynamic combat, and a semi-open world filled with secrets, this entry is ideal for fans as well as newcomers.
Still among hugely popular franchises, LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1–4 and LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5–7 retell the story of Hogwarts’ most famous wizard. The first delivers a charming adaptation of the first four films, featuring free exploration of the castle, spells to learn, and numerous puzzles. The magical atmosphere is particularly successful. The second is darker and more mature than its predecessor, with more complex and varied level design.
Let’s now move on to original productions—those not tied to famous licenses. LEGO 2K Drive is a multiplayer title where players race dream vehicles that can transform at will, whether on racetracks, off-road, or even on water. Also playable online, LEGO Party! is a colorful and accessible party game inspired by board games of old. Up to four players compete in more than 60 wacky mini-games inspired by different worlds.
For something much calmer, LEGO Voyagers is a cooperative puzzle-adventure game where two players control bricks and must work together to solve puzzles and progress through beautiful worlds in order to save a spaceship. Finally, LEGO Bricktales is a puzzle adventure focused on creativity. Players explore gorgeous dioramas and solve challenges by building suitable solutions such as bridges, vehicles, and machines.
Let’s return to licensed games. A fairly recent entry, LEGO Horizon Adventures adapts Aloy’s story into brick form. It offers a pleasant and humorous reinterpretation of the franchise, with wonderful art direction. Meanwhile, LEGO Fortnite stands out as a survival game: a free-to-play title that replaces the classic Battle Royale mode with a LEGO-style survival sandbox experience in a procedurally generated world.
Finally, LEGO Speed Champions was a DLC for Forza Horizon 4. It transforms an area of the game into a LEGO-themed world and adds a new map where players can drive iconic cars such as the McLaren Senna and the Ferrari F40, complete challenges, and take part in competitions within this unique environment.
In the end, it’s clear that LEGO video games have evolved over the years, moving from simple funny adaptations to truly rich, and sometimes ambitious, adventures. Their strength lies in their accessibility, their friendly cooperative gameplay, and their ability to pay tribute to beloved universes while adding a touch of self-aware humor. Whether you’re a fan of superheroes, galactic sagas, or fantasy worlds, there is certainly a LEGO game made for you. Which one will it be?
