The best games of May 2026

After a particularly busy April in terms of game releases, May isn’t going to give us a break either. A wide variety of games is set to land on our favorite platforms, ranging from indie titles to highly anticipated blockbusters. Without further ado, let’s dive into the first part of our selection of the best games of May 2026.

An indie role-playing game, SoulQuest is a 2D pixel-art hack-and-slash that tells the story of a woman’s eternal love and boundless grief. You play as Alys, who refuses to accept the gods’ verdict when her husband is taken from her, and thus embarks on a perilous adventure. Ash & Adam’s: Existential Treads is an experience halfway between city-building and a retro shooter. You defend your people against waves of powerful attacks in procedurally generated levels.

Dead As Disco is probably one of the gems of the month. An original concept blending action and musical atmosphere, where the rhythm directly influences gameplay. The game’s unique aesthetic gives it a distinctive look, making every session as satisfying as it is enjoyable. Infinity Sweeper is also an indie game that takes the strategic fun of classic Minesweeper and transforms it into a roguelite adventure that can be replayed endlessly.

A nostalgic narrative adventure inspired by 80s and 90s films, centered on friendship and teenage memories with a strong musical element, Mixtape is sure to appeal to fans of the genre. In a completely different genre, Call of the Elder Gods is an adventure tinged with cosmic horror that plunges players into a universe inspired by Lovecraftian myths, blending investigation and puzzle-solving.

Let’s now turn to some much better-known and highly anticipated titles. Directive8020 is the latest installment from Supermassive Games, the creators of the Dark Pictures franchise. With a focus on horror sci-fi, this game relies on narrative choices and consequences to deliver an immersive experience set in space. Outbound is a cooperative survival game that has made a huge splash on social media. Focused on nature and freedom, you’ll build your base inside a van, which will accompany you everywhere across the various maps available.

Undoubtedly the most anticipated title in our first selection, Forza Horizon 6 is coming to our screens and marks the return of powerful cars battling it out on a massive map. This time, we’ll be transported to Japan, with over 550 vehicles planned at launch. For those seeking a pirate adventure, Corsairs - Battle of the Caribbean is a real-time strategy game set in the heart of these exotic islands.

Finally, the DeepRock Galactic franchise returns with a new installment titled DeepRock Galactic: Rogue Core. A spin-off of the famous cooperative game, this new episode adopts a roguelite approach, featuring procedurally generated missions and a focus on replayability. The excellent Two Point Museum is also getting a DLC called Arty-Facts, which brings a host of new features.

The month of May 2026 perfectly illustrates the current richness of the video game industry, capable of offering both intimate experiences and spectacular productions. Whether you’re a fan of narrative storytelling, multiplayer challenges, or immersive exploration, this diverse first selection has something for every type of player. Check out other titles not mentioned in the list below, and stay tuned for the second part of the best games of May 2026 coming very soon!
