Games with unusual names

Some games just grab your attention immediately with an unusual, absurd, or particularly memorable name. Whether it’s a full sentence, a play on words, or a string of unlikely terms, these names help shape the game’s identity and spark curiosity in their own way. Today, we’re sharing our selection of titles with names that think outside the box.

Without further ado, let’s start with A Game About Digging A Hole. There’s clearly no surprise to be had here, since the game’s name literally describes its premise. There are no giant creatures, no explosions, no hand-to-hand combat, and no 32-player finals… just us and our shovel. The goal is to dig a hole all the way to the bottom of the garden to discover what’s there. Be warned: it’s surprisingly more addictive than you’d think.

The second title in our selection is practically a phrase in and of itself: Vampire Crawlers: The Turbo Wildcard from Vampire Survivors. As the name suggests, this is the new game developed by the creators of the excellent Vampire Survivors, this time returning in an entirely different genre featuring cards.

We can expect something a little more off-the-wall with Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP, which combines a lollipop with a chainsaw. While that may sound completely outlandish, it’s precisely what makes this game so memorable. You play as Juliet, a cheerleader from a family of zombie hunters who must carry on the tradition.

For something fast and effective, there's Don’t Starve, which lives up to its name, challenging players not to starve to death. It’s much the same with Say No! More, which turns a simple everyday expression into a full-fledged game concept. The whole adventure revolves around learning to say “no” in increasingly zany situations.

A cozier yet challenging experience awaits in An Eggstremely Hard Game, which makes its intentions clear right from the title, and with a pun! It’s a physics-based two-player co-op game in which you must guide an egg through an obstacle-filled course. Of course, if the egg has the misfortune of falling, it’s game over, and you have to start again.

We end with Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion, probably one of the most absurd titles ever conceived. The idea of a young turnip wanted for tax evasion immediately intrigues and brings a smile to your face. This offbeat name has become a true asset for this indie.

Ultimately, these titles stand out because they break away with convention. Some use humor, while others rely on the absurd, mystery, or even complete sentences. In any case, they fulfill their purpose perfectly: to grab attention, spark curiosity, and stick in players’ minds, sometimes even before they know what the game is actually about.
