The second half of August 2026 wraps up the summer on a particularly ambitious note. Between highly anticipated sequels, promising new IPs, the return of cult classics, and big ports, gamers will have plenty to fill their schedules with until the start of the school year. Here’s our selection of the most notable games for the second half of August 2026, those that stand out as much for their potential as for the excitement they’ve generated.

New Releases

Let’s start with the sequel to the horror investigation game inspired by the world of H. P. Lovecraft. The Sinking City 2 takes its oppressive atmosphere and exploration of a city ravaged by madness even further. Combat intensifies, while the narrative promises even more choices and mysteries to solve. Gallipoli plunges players into the heart of one of the most memorable campaigns of World War I. The game features meticulous historical recreation, intense combat, and a realistic immersion on the battlefield.

One of this month’s major releases, Mortal Shell II builds on the foundations of the first game while enhancing its combat system and dark universe. New shells, never-before-seen weapons, and a wider variety of enemies promise an even more challenging adventure. This sequel looks set to be a must-play for fans of souls-likes.

Let's make the jump to a different genre altogether with Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, which brings together several iconic entries from Hideo Kojima's IP in a remastered collection. This lets players rediscover some stealth classics with plenty of technical enhancements and modern features.

Another major release of this month, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, expands the universe of the famous franchise by offering a new story set in the same world. The game retains its focus on storytelling, stealth, and emotion while introducing new plotlines and challenges.

Meanwhile, Breathedge 2 continues its hero’s wild space adventures with the same ever-present sense of humor. Exploration, survival, gear crafting, and absurd storytelling combine in an adventure even more ambitious than the first installment. Staying in the space genre, Star Wars Zero Company transports players into a tactical RPG where they lead a squad deep within the galaxy. Between recruiting, customizing soldiers, and strategic battles, the title promises a rich experience for strategy fans.

Expansions and DLC

As for expansions, none in particular caught our attention for the second half of August 2026. It’s worth noting that we’ll already have our hands full earlier in the month with the expansion Mafia: The Old Country – Man of Honor, which promises to deliver a brand-new, intense adventure set deep in the Sicilian mountains.

Port

The arrival of Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition on Switch 2 lets players experience FromSoftware’s masterpiece on the Nintendo console. This edition bundles the base game and its additional content into a version optimized for a complete experience.

The second half of August 2026 wraps up the summer with a pretty solid lineup. Between blockbusters, ambitious sequels, inspired indie titles, and major franchises returning to the spotlight, gamers will have plenty to keep them busy until the fall releases.
