The best RPGs in 2025

Role-playing games are an extremely broad and varied genre. Be it action-RPG, JRPG, tactical-RPG many other sub-genres: we've seen it all during many years. So much so, that the choices are countless, and we are getting more and more renowned games over the generations.

To shed some light on the subject, we're going to share 15 RPGs worth playing in 2025. These may be very recent titles, or older ones that have stood the test of time thanks to the unforgettable experience they deliver.

With Baldur's Gate 3, Larian Studios has proved that it is still possible to create a RPG with a compelling narrative, memorable characters and a story with many twists and turns. It's not for nothing that this third entry ended up getting dozens of Game of the Year awards in 2023.

As for the undisputed masters of the action-RPG genre, there's CD Projekt RED with The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077: two role-playing games that shine through their respective vivid universes and unforgettable protagonists. Quite simply, there's always something to do or discover in the Polish company's games.

Freedom is also a central thing to nail when it comes to creating a masterpiece. Bethesda Game Studios understood this with Skyrim which, 14 years after its release, continues to captivate gamers the world over. In this open-world RPG, it's the player who shapes their own story, not to mention the inexhaustible number of downloadable mods that can add dozens of hours to the game.

The very essence of role-playing games has its origins in JRPGs. Here, Atlus stands out, and Persona 5 Royal is the best example, with tactical and dynamic turn-based battles, a plot full of twists and turns and customizable powers and builds.

Finally, while they may not be considered RPGs at first glance, titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Elden Ring or even S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl embrace certain aspects of the genre. That's why they're in our top ten.
