The best announcements from the Gamescom 2025

Gamescom 2025 is now over. This year's event featured various announcements and gameplay presentations for dozens of games. Most of these titles were revealed during Opening Night Live, which took place on the eve of the German trade show opening. In this selection, we'll take a closer look at the productions that left their mark at Gamescom. All the biggest publishers, studios, and independent developers were there. The games in question will be released this year or in 2026.

First up is Hollow Knight: Silksong, which was playable at the Nintendo and Xbox booths at Gamescom 2025. It's now official: Team Cherry's title will be released on September 4 on all platforms. This announcement has disrupted the plans of many independent games, which have opted to postpone their launch dates to avoid competition from the sequel to Hollow Knight, which has been eagerly awaited for seven years. Some have even gone so far as to compare Silksong to a kind of GTA VI for the independent scene. What is certain is that the gameplay in this sequel looks spectacular and very challenging. Our nerves will surely be put to the test.

When it comes to new game announcements during Gamescom 2025, we obviously have to mention LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. This open-world game will retrace the epic journey of the Dark Knight, from his beginnings to becoming a Gotham legend. In addition, the sequel to Black Myth: Wukong also made a big impression with a sumptuous trailer. Let's add to this impressive list Project Spectrum, a free-to-play tactical horror PvPvE shooter from the studio behind Delta Force. Let's not forget Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV and even Road Kings, which also shone brightly during the famous Opening Night Live.

In terms of previously announced games that were shown again at Gamescom 2025, we must mention Ghost of Yotei, whose release on PS5 is not too far off. In the same category, Silent Hill f treated us to a superb trailer highlighting its tense combat and dark story. The upcoming expansion for World of Warcraft, called “Midnight,” was treated to a beautiful cinematic trailer. Blizzard also took the time to show off some gameplay. We won't cover them all, but titles such as Onimusha: Way of the Sword and Lords of the Fallen II managed to stand out from the crowd.

Finally, we must take a moment to mention the unmissable Resident Evil Requiem. Winner of numerous awards from the Gamescom jury, Capcom's survival horror game was universally acclaimed! The Japanese publisher allowed those present to test the game in both first-person and third-person modes. The gameplay sequence on display was stressful to say the least, as Grace Ashcroft was pursued by an absolutely horrific creature. It's no surprise that this ninth installment was widely regarded as the most accomplished title at Gamescom.

While Gamescom 2025 was unfortunately not particularly prolific in terms of surprises, it did offer a varied lineup of games. Unfortunately, we can regret the absence of some major players, notably PlayStation, and the lack of major announcements for the recently released Switch 2. The next big presentations will take place at The Game Awards 2025, which will be held on December 11.
