The coming months will be incredibly important for the gaming industry. Several highly anticipated AAA games are finally set to launch on consoles and PC. These titles, often backed by massive budgets, carry the weight of the entire video game sector and are likely to set the tone for future trends. While the indie scene and AA productions are also enjoying strong popularity this year (such as Hollow Knight: Silksong, Clair Obscur, Blue Prince...), all eyes are on the major franchises. In this article, we’ll take a look at the ten most anticipated AAA games. Some will be arriving in just a few weeks, while others, unfortunately, won’t land until 2026 or later.
Let’s begin with the AAA titles coming in the near future. Battlefield 6, which is launching on October 10, 2025, is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated FPS releases in recent years. It appears to return to the franchise’s roots with destructible environments, massive maps, a high-octane single-player campaign, and a wealth of content. The beta was a massive hit, and all signs suggest the full game will maintain this momentum. The real question is whether Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will manage to overshadow this Electronic Arts title. Either way, its release will cap off 2025 in spectacular fashion and set the stage for what promises to be an exciting 2026.
Covering all the AAA games that will shape the gaming scene in 2026 is no easy task. Kicking things off, Capcom is going with a tried-and-true formula: Resident Evil Requiem. This ninth installment will be playable in both first- and third-person perspectives and will take players on a brand-new horror adventure alongside Grace Ashcroft, a young FBI agent investigating her mother’s murder. From what we’ve seen so far, the survival-horror elements will be elevated by stunning visuals and an expertly crafted atmosphere. Early 2026 will also see the release of 007 First Light, where players will step into the shoes of a young, inexperienced James Bond in a game developed by the studio behind the Hitman franchise.
But 2026 will also mark the return of some of the biggest AAA franchises in gaming. Chief among them is the phenomenon that is GTA VI, hitting consoles on May 26. Set in the sprawling fictional state of Leonida—home to the iconic Vice City—the game follows Lucia and Jason, a criminal duo determined to rise in a ruthless world. Rockstar Games is poised to deliver not just the blockbuster of the decade, but possibly one of the most anticipated games of all time. Its online mode is expected to redefine the genre and provide a content-rich platform that can evolve over many years. There's no doubt: GTA VI will mark a before and after in gaming history.
Beyond Rockstar’s juggernaut, several major RPG franchises are also generating buzz. Xbox’s Fable reboot—originally created by Peter Molyneux—is in development at Playground Games (Forza Horizon), aiming to retain the series' legendary charm while introducing modern touches. Meanwhile, The Witcher 4 looks set to make some waves. CD Projekt RED has already unveiled a stunning trailer and an impressive tech demo. And then there's The Elder Scrolls VI, first announced in June 2018, which remains one of the most long-awaited titles. Currently in development at Bethesda Game Studios, it’s unlikely to release before 2027 at the earliest.
In short, while the AAA model faces increasing criticism, these titles still unite vast communities of players. They have the potential to redefine genres and breathe new life into the industry—something it arguably needs. Of course, this is far from a complete list of the major productions heading to our screens. Games like The Outer Worlds 2, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, and others yet to be officially announced may well shape the future of gaming.
