The best games of April 2026 (Part 1)

The coming month is shaping up to be particularly rich for video game enthusiasts. Between ambitious new IPs, highly anticipated returns, and more atypical experiences, studios are competing in creativity to appeal to all types of players. Adventure lovers, narrative fans, thrill seekers, or those curious about original concepts... this first selection of the best games of April 2026 has some great surprises in store.

Six tentacles and plenty of suction cups later, here we are in Darwin’s Paradox. This stealth-style adventure features an octopus as ingenious as it is endearing, trapped in a gigantic industrial complex from which it must escape. Mystery, humor, and sci-fi conspiracy are all part of the package. I Am Jesus Christ invites players to relive the life of Jesus, from birth to resurrection, through an interactive story inspired by the New Testament. Nothing less…

Modulus is an elegant automation puzzle game based on mathematical logic and modular transformations, perfect for fans of brain-teasing challenges. For something a bit darker, Morkull: Ascend to the Gods is a 2.5D platformer that blends dark humor, meta-theatrical storytelling, and precision gameplay. You play as Morkull, the god of Death and Darkness, seeking to join the world of the gods.

You can build vast maritime cities in the survival and management game All Will Fall. Be careful, because its 3D construction is physics-based and everything can quickly collapse. Deep resource management, exploration, supply chains, and even thorny political decisions await. On a much lighter note, People of Note is a turn-based musical and narrative RPG where each character has a unique sonic identity.

We return to a more morbid universe with Road to Vostok. After an initial delay, it’s finally ready. This is an ultra-realistic survival FPS, promising brutal immersion in a post-apocalyptic zone, with a permanent death mechanic. Also delayed to this April, DarkSwitch is a vertical city-building game nestled in the branches of a gigantic tree. Still among the delayed releases, Replaced is a stunning pixel-art cyberpunk action title, blending strong narrative with fast-paced gameplay.

Lay of the Land is a sandbox adventure game with a voxel style, set in a fantasy world where everything is physically simulated. You must use the environment to your advantage and explore, fight, loot, and build your way through mysterious lands. A personal favorite here! On the same day, we have Pokémon Champions, a new competitive entry in the famous franchise, focused on strategic battles and multiplayer.

A change of tone with Samson: A Tyndalston Story, a narrative action video game developed by the Swedish studio Liquid Swords, founded by the former creative director of the Just Cause series. The game follows a hardened fighter returning to the fictional and ultra-violent city of Tyndalston. It stands out for its brutal tone, intense close combat, and cinematic car chases.

Next comes The Occultist, a psychological survival horror where investigation and paranormal phenomena intertwine in an oppressive atmosphere. The protagonist wields an occult pendulum that interacts with and alters the environment. Last Flag is a dynamic competitive multiplayer title centered on capture-the-flag gameplay in stylized environments.

Time for some cooperation with We Gotta Go. Trapped with friends in a haunted mansion, you must find the bathroom at all costs. Your objective: navigate labyrinthine corridors, face supernatural forces, and reach the toilet before everything overflows… Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss offers some Lovecraftian terror, filled with madness, exploration, and cosmic mysteries. Finally, Ereban: Shadow Legacy offers a futuristic stealth experience where you manipulate shadows to avoid your enemies.

With such a diverse lineup, April 2026 justs confirms the health and creativity of the video game industry. Between intimate experiences, ambitious productions, and the return of cult franchises, every player will find something to enjoy. Whether you're seeking thrills, escapism, or challenges, this month stands out as a key moment to discover new worlds. See you tomorrow for part 2 of our selection!
