The best zombie games (part 3)

The best zombie games (part 3)

After two lists dedicated to the undead, it’s time to break out the bats, shotguns, and Molotov cocktails one last time. To wrap up this series, we’ve rounded up ten more games that showcase the full diversity of the genre, from ruthless survival to cooperative action, strategy, pure horror, and even a few downright offbeat twists. This final batch should prove... if any further proof were needed, that zombies still have a bright future ahead of them.

Back 4 Blood builds on the formula of zombie hordes and four-player co-op by adding a map system that lets you customize each match. Its fast-paced action, plenty of special infected, and constantly unpredictable situations make it an excellent outlet for fans of co-op gameplay.

With its remake, Resident Evil 2 offers one of the best gateways to modern survival horror, plunging players back into a zombie-infested Raccoon City. The same goes for Resident Evil 4, whose remake has brought new life to a game that had already left a profound mark on video game history by shifting the series toward more spectacular action while retaining a strong horror element.

Sker Ritual is a co-op roguelike that takes players to a horror experience centered on survival against waves of nightmarish creatures. For strategy fans, They Are Billions brings the zombie apocalypse to life in a game where even the smallest mistake can doom an entire colony. Building, upgrading defenses, and fending off thousands of infected creatures leads to battles that are as impressive as they are stressful.

If you are in the mood for something a tad more acrobatic, Dying Light: The Beast carries on the series’ legacy by blending parkour, brutal combat, and survival in an infested world. With its wilder approach and a hero endowed with particularly powerful abilities, it offers a new way to navigate an apocalypse where zombies remain ever-present.

Three selections and thirty games later, the conclusion is finally clear: zombies aren’t going anywhere anytime soon on our consoles and PCs. Whether they serve as cannon fodder in an FPS, a constant threat in a survival game, an army to repel in a strategy game, or a pretext for telling gripping stories, the undead constantly know how to reinvent themselves.
