Description

The Outer Worlds for PC is a single-player action role playing game in which you are responsible for – whatever happens, basically!

About the Game

To start with you create your character, personalising and customising them until you are perfectly happy with the way they look. You will also unlock a ship which works less as a transport vehicle and more as a portal to the various destinations on the map. You do not fly the ship, instead indicating where you want to go, and… getting there.

The second phase of the game takes you to these locations and puts you in the proximity of NPCs (non-playing characters) with whom you communicate. Often, they will give you missions or quests, and will accompany you on your journey, helping you out in battle and ambush scenarios. Each companion has their own backstory and along with it a handful of unique skills and talents that will come in handy for you as well as them.

In the ship, you can have as many companions as you like, but only two can accompany you on missions, so do choose wisely, depending on what sort of situation you are heading into! Your decisions at every point have an impact on the game’s narrative, so you can play very different routes and scenarios each time you play through the whole game.

Backstory

The game posits that if William McKinley was not assassinated, Theodore Roosevelt would never have succeeded him, and thus corporations would have been able to stealthily take over the world sooner rather than later.

You are deep in cryosleep when something goes wrong with your transporter, giving you a golden opportunity to pop down to the nearest planet and see what the corporations are actually up to.

Of course, there are shenanigans going on, and it is up to you to act to claw back a little human dignity and independence, but the corporations have been too big and powerful for so long that they are unlikely to simply let you spill their nefarious secrets. The game is on!

How to Battle

  • When given a challenge or quest by an NPC the player can respond in one of three ways: heroically, accepting the mission and setting off promptly to save the day; moronically – self-explanatory, really!; or maniacally which might be the most fun, charging off without too much thought and terrifying the villains into defeat or surrender!

  • There are various melee weapons (weighted light, medium and heavy) which can be customised to add elemental damage if desired

  • You do not have to combat at all if you do not wish to, using stealth or persuasion instead of violence and weapons

  • There are branches of sciences which the player can become skilled in, learning how to make things like shrink rays which negate the power of an enemy combatant without the use of lethal force!

  • If you persistently fail at one particular mission, you gain a ‘flaw’ which sounds like a disadvantage and is, as far as that particular action is concerned – but it does come with perks and benefits in other areas, so it is not entirely a bad thing to gain

  • There is something called a Tactical Time Dilation, where you can slow time down enough that you can suss out your opponent’s stats and health bar, as well as giving you a host of other advantages and benefits

  • The Outer Worlds for PC is available for purchase on Instant Gaming for a fraction of its retail price. You will receive an official key and be able to play the game in seconds. Play smart. Pay less.
